The label announced the news Friday (Jan. 15) on Twitter with a photo showing Ross keeping company with Epic Records chairman and CEO L.A. Reid and Epic Records president Sylvia Rhone.
The move means Ross has left Def Jam after a decade with the Universal Music Group imprint. The hip hop superstar released his debut album, Port of Miami, there in 2006, as well as seven discs following. His most recent LP, Black Market, was released Dec. 4 and debuted at No. 6 on the Billboard 200.
There’s no word on whether Ross’ Maybach Music Group imprint will come with him to Epic. Since 2013 it has been distributed by Atlantic, following deals with Warner Bros. and Def Jam before.
Ross posted a photo to Twitter earlier in the day, not addressing the new deal but seemingly making a nod to it
