LeBron James’ business partner Maverick Carter spoke with Variety about some of their dealings outside of the sport of basketball. James already owns a film production company, and 2 percent stake in the Liverpool Footclub Club that reached the Champions League Final this past season. Carter told Variety’s Audrey Cleo that his friend and partner hoped to delegate his production schedule with several other interested parties. Carter said, “He does like football and he’s looked at football ownership, so he’ll be owning a basketball team and running it,” serving notice that LeBron will look to own and operate a franchise “within his means” once his career in the NBA comes to an end.

The three-time NBA champ scored a four-year $153 million deal to play for the Los Angeles Lakers this offseason, making the announcement before the negotiation moratorium had passed. LeBron has also backed a pizza franchise in Blaze Pizza, and holds a minority stake in Dr Dre’s profitable Beats By Dre audio brand.

With respect to his production run with SpringHill Entertainment, he is currently in a process of “content delimitation,” making his new locale of Los Angeles an easy as pie choice to prolong his career. In fact, Springhill Entertainment just released a YouTube original called Best Shots chronicling the lives of promising basketball prospects living in “troubled neighbourhoods.”
