Rapper Nelly has lost his bid to dismiss a defamation case against him.
The rapper was arrested in October after Monique Greene claimed he forced himself upon her on his tour bus after a gig in Washington, but the subsequent criminal case against him fell apart in December after Greene declined to testify.
Nelly maintained his innocence throughout and countersued his accuser when she launched a defamation and sexual assault civil suit against the star, revealing he and Greene had sex – but it was consensual.
The 43-year-old asked Judge Cheryl Carey to toss the case, but she recently ruled it could move forward. She also ruled Greene’s complaints of emotional distress and outrage could remain.
Meanwhile, Greene has also filed documents asking the judge to dismiss Nelly’s counter-suit because her statements were true and protected by U.S. freedom of speech laws.
