Being no stranger to the Forbes Most Wealthiest Artists list, hip-hop mogul Puff Daddy now makes his biggest purchase yet: $21 million dollars on a painting.
And not just any painting. As reported by the New York Times, Kerry James Marshall is best known for his narratives surrounding African-American culture.
During an auction at Sotheby’s in New York on Wednesday evening, Marshall’s iconic painting titled “Past Times” was reportedly sold at an extremely high bid.
This bid turned out to be claimed by none other than Sean Combs.
Not only does this $21 million sale mark Marshall’s biggest sale to date, but it also makes history as the highest amount sold for a piece of art from a living artist.
News was revealed by Jack Shainman, Marshall’s gallerist and dealer in New York, who stated: “I know that this work has found a home in a collection with purpose and an eye toward preserving legacy — that of Sean Combs. And that means a lot.”
In the words of Diddy, Can’t Stop, Won’t Stop.
